WEB DESIGN FACTORS TO CONSIDER FOR BETTER PAGE RANKING
August 31, 2010 by: maureenWhilst anybody offering search engine optimisation services will know there are a lot of different elements involved in getting your page ranked higher, or lower, there are some very basic and simple factors that go way back to the start and are more concerned with the design of your website and the way it has been developed, over specific content or link building strategies. Whilst of course all these things are crucial, there is no point going to extensive methods to enhance your position within SERP’s if your basic web design strategies are not up to scratch.
Page loading time is more important than you think. Ok so it is impossible to ensure your page loads quickly every single time, especially if people are accessing from a public computer as there can be other things which are beyond your control which can slow down the actual internet connection. That being said, if you can create a website which loads as quickly as possible then you are at least ahead of the game. The other factor to consider is that more detailed or sophisticated content, such as videos, images and podcasts, can slow down page loading. The problem is that without these things the quality of your website will not be as high, so the trick with this side of web development is to get a good balance and ensure that you do not have any unnecessary content which could be slowing your site down.
A slow loading web page is unlikely to actually be penalised by search engines, however it will result in a less user friendly site. Over time, websites which are not used regularly or are user friendly will not be ranked as effective and strong, so it is worth bearing this in mind as more of a long term strategy. In a similar way, the use of your site via mobile internet should also be considered. Whilst a website which is not fully compatible for mobile internet use will not be penalised directly, again over time it will become less popular and less visited via mobile internet, which can be bad for your online reputation management as well as ranking results.
Keywords are good, but only in the right places. Strong incoming links are a good thing and links which are rich in keywords would usually be something that we at clickconsult.com would favour. However, as with everything, there is a time and a place and keywords should be in the form of natural content or title tags and under no circumstances hidden. Many companies will hide keywords within random pages within their site which are barely used, or within footnotes. Both of these things are seen as negative aspects by some search engines, so try to keep your keywords natural and in an appropriate place.
With website design , consider how all aspects can impact upon your rankings to make the most of your online visibility.
